Anthony Hu

Anthony Hu, also known as Anthony Yuan Hu, was born in Plymouth, Minnesota, and later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. He attended The Blake School in Minneapolis from 2004 to 2015, then studied at New York University from 2015 to 2017. Hu has worked as a self-employed professional poker player since November 2017, giving him more than eight years of experience at the tables. His first recorded live cash came in April 2017, and he spent several years grinding tournaments before achieving his first major live results.

Hu's career took off in January 2023 at the PokerGO Studios in Las Vegas. Entering Event 4 of the PokerGO Cup, he had never won a live tournament and had never finished as high as second place. He brought a third of the chips to the final table, outlasting poker heavyweights Erik Seidel, Andrew Moreno, Calvin Lee, and Adrian Mateos. Hu reached heads-up play against Justin Saliba with two-thirds of the chips, but a couple of swings changed everything. In a battle of busted flush draws, Saliba bet Hu out on the river to take the chip lead, and then Hu's A♥7♥ ran into Saliba's A♣4♦ when Saliba made a wheel on the river to win. Hu earned $140,400 as the runner-up, his first live second-place finish.

Rather than stepping away, Hu took $15,000 of that prize money and immediately entered Event 5. By the end of the night, he once again held a commanding final-table chip lead — and this time he did not relinquish it. He eliminated all five of his opponents, including Seidel heads-up, to claim the trophy and $268,800. His winnings over the two-day stretch eclipsed $400,000, and he took the overall lead in the PokerGO Cup leaderboard. Erik Seidel tweeted: "Congrats to Anthony, very tough player & fun to play with. He kept the pressure on & deserved the 🏆." Hu joked afterward, "I'm just really glad to get bring in the results... It's been a while, and I smashed my first tournament win." Describing the marathon schedule, he said, "Honestly, it's all blurred... When I go back to my real life, it feels like I went to another dimension."

Hu has a deep resume at the World Series of Poker, primarily in no-limit hold'em and pot-limit Omaha. In 2022, he finished third in Event #33: $3,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em for $257,821, and added a 19th-place showing in Event #46: $5,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em for $32,459. He also placed 40th in the $10,000 6-Handed Championship for $20,000. In 2023, he went 31st in the $10,000 6-Handed Championship for $28,938, 33rd in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship for $33,823, 71st in the $10,000 Super Turbo Bounty for $11,873, and 12th in the $1,979 Poker Hall of Fame Bounty for $20,633. Additional WSOP cashes that year included 43rd in the $1,500 Freezeout for $9,933, 66th in the $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em for $10,853, and 72nd in the $5,000 Freezeout for $8,762. On WSOP.com, Hu's online record shows 20 final tables, 149 cashes, and total earnings of $1,670,416, though he has not yet captured a bracelet or ring.

Hu's largest recorded live cash came at the 2023 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, where he finished third in the $25,000 High Roller for $442,300. He also cashed in the $10,300 PCA Main Event for $29,400. In the 2023 WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas, he placed 130th for $37,600, and at the NAPT Las Vegas $5,300 High Roller he was 16th for $10,715. He recorded multiple online WSOP results in 2022 and 2023, including a sixth-place finish in the $1,000 NLH online event for $14,027 and tenth place in the $3,200 High Roller 6-Max for $9,059.

In late 2025, Hu continued to travel internationally. He posted a fourth-place finish in a Single Day High Roller at the APT Championship Taipei for NT$1,140,700 (approximately $63,200), and took second place in a $2,000+$1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Bounty event at the Wynn Summer Classic for $79,563. His lifetime live tournament earnings have surpassed $3.1 million, and he ranks among the top few hundred on the United States All Time Money List.

Hu is recognized for an aggressive, pressure-heavy style, particularly in high roller and championship events. At the PokerGO Cup, he kept the pressure on elite opponents, and Erik Seidel specifically credited him for doing so in the heads-up match. Hu emphasizes emotional control and patience, saying, "I just keep focusing on playing well and try not to get too excited or too sad when I lose – you know, the same boring stuff that all the poker players say." His results demonstrate versatility across both no-limit hold'em and pot-limit Omaha, and his quick re-entry after a runner-up finish highlights a disciplined, resilient approach to tournament grinding.

Hu resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated from The Blake School in 2015 and attended New York University from 2015 to 2017.
