按钮位15大盲反偷(BTN 15bb Resteal)

BTN 15bb Resteal

When on the button with a stack depth of about 15 big blinds, a re-raise or all-in against an opponent's blind steal, aimed at reclaiming dead money or forcing the opponent to fold.

Concept

BTN 15bb Resteal is a counter-strategy against short stacks (approximately 15 big blinds) on the button. When an opponent (usually the small blind or big blind player) attempts to steal the pot via a steal, the button position player uses their positional advantage and stack depth to regain initiative through a 3-bet or direct all-in. This strategy is common in middle-to-late tournament stages, especially when blinds are high and dead money in the pot is significant.

Applicable Scenarios

  • Opponent has a high steal frequency and a loose range.
  • Your stack is around 15 big blinds, within effective stack range, making an all-in or re-raise threatening.
  • Button position offers post-flop positional advantage; even if called, you can play a wider range post-flop.
  • Dead money (blinds and antes) is large enough that the expected value of the resteal outweighs the risk.

Strategic Considerations

  • Opponent range: If the opponent's open-raising range from the small blind or big blind is too wide (e.g., stealing with weak hands), the resteal is more profitable.
  • Your range: Typically use hands with showdown value (e.g., medium pairs, Ax, suited connectors) or pure bluffs (e.g., small suited connectors) for balance.
  • Stack size: 15 big blinds is a critical threshold. Shorter stacks (e.g., below 10bb) may warrant directly shoving, while longer stacks (above 20bb) require post-flop play after a 3-bet.
  • Position advantage: The button acts last post-flop, making it easier to gather information and execute bluffs.

Notes

  • Avoid overuse: If opponents adjust, they may call or re-raise with tighter ranges, rendering the resteal ineffective.
  • ICM impact: Near the payout bubble, balance the risk of losing your entire stack against potential gains.
  • Opponent tendencies: More effective against passive players; be cautious against aggressive players who may 4-bet or shove back.

Example

Assume tournament blinds are 500/1000 with an ante of 100. You have 15,000 chips (i.e., 15bb) on the button. The small blind (effective stack 19bb) open-raises to 2,200. You judge the small blind's steal range is wide and decide to 3-bet all-in with your A5o, forcing the small blind to fold and winning 4,000 in dead money (blinds + ante + his raise).
