CO 30bb Push Fold

Term: 关煞位30大盲注推弃策略(CO 30bb Push Fold) In tournaments or SNGs, when a player is in the cutoff position with an effective stack of approximately 30 big blinds, a simplified strategy of only pushing all-in or folding is used to exploit resteals and ICM pressure.

Overview

CO 30bb Push Fold is a simplified strategy for a specific stack depth, commonly used in late tournament stages or the bubble phase of SNG. When a player is in the CO (Cutoff) position with an effective stack size of around 30 big blinds (bb), the stack depth is neither deep enough for standard raise-call complex play nor shallow enough to avoid frequent post-flop errors. Thus, an extreme strategy consisting only of Push or Fold is adopted.

Strategy Principles

1. Stack Depth Impact

30bb is in the "medium stack" range, often considered a "grey area": more vulnerable to post-flop variance than deep stacks (>40bb), but with more options than short stacks (<20bb). At this depth, raising to 2.5–3bb and getting called leaves a post-flop pot that is a large proportion of the stack, easily leading to marginal spots. Using Push Fold simplifies decisions and avoids losses from suboptimal post-flop play.

2. Position and Range

The CO position is relatively late, with only BTN, SB, and BB to act. At 30bb, CO's steal range can be wide, because blind players facing an all-in typically have a tight calling range (due to ICM considerations). A typical pushing range includes small pocket pairs (e.g., 55+), suited connectors (e.g., 76s), and all Ace-high hands, but adjustments should be made based on opponent tendencies.

3. ICM Considerations

In tournaments near the money bubble or already in the money with significant pay jumps, ICM (Independent Chip Model) heavily influences decisions. A 30bb stack pushing from CO puts immense pressure on the small or big blind (especially shorter stacks), as calling and losing can lead to elimination or a severe chip reduction. Thus, CO's push range can be widened to exploit opponents' fear.

Common Mistakes

  • Blindly following a range: Push Fold strategy must be adjusted based on opponents' calling tendencies, table dynamics, and your own image. For example, if the blinds frequently call loosely, tighten your pushing range.
  • Ignoring re-steals: When blinds have an aggressive re-steal tendency, CO's push range should focus on value hands (e.g., TT+, AQ+) to avoid being re-steal bluffed.

Summary

CO 30bb Push Fold is a conservative but effective simplification strategy, suitable for fast tournaments or online SNG. The key is understanding the interaction between stack depth and ICM, and flexibly adjusting the all-in range based on opponent dynamics.
