HJ位挤压(Squeeze from HJ)
Squeeze from HJ
A large re-raise from the Hijack against an early position raiser and any callers behind, aimed at forcing all opponents to fold and win the pot immediately.
Overview
Squeeze from HJ (HJ squeeze) is a common preflop aggressive strategy. It typically occurs when there is one raiser and one or more callers preflop. The player in the HJ makes a large 3-bet (usually 3-4 times the original raise or more) to attack both the raiser and the caller(s). This play is highly effective because callers often have medium-strength hands and no position, while the raiser is also prone to folding when facing a large re-raise.
Theory and Advantages
The squeeze exploits the "capped" ranges of opponents—the caller's range is typically weak, and although the raiser's range is stronger, they may still fold under pressure. The HJ position is somewhat late-middle, allowing observation of earlier actions while providing sufficient fold equity. When executed successfully, the player can uncontestedly take down the dead money in the pot.
Considerations
- Frequency: Overusing the squeeze reduces its effectiveness, as opponents may adjust by calling or 4-betting more often.
- Stack Depth: Generally safer with effective stacks of 100BB or more; riskier with short stacks.
- Opponent Tendencies: Works best against players with high fold frequencies; be cautious against regulars who frequently 4-bet.
- Postflop Plan: If called after a squeeze, a continuation bet (c-bet) is usually needed to maintain pressure, but board texture must be considered.
