WSD from HJ
WSD from HJ
Went to Showdown from HJ WSD from HJ The percentage of times a player sees a showdown after entering the pot from the Hijack position.
Overview
WSD from HJ is a statistical metric used in Texas Hold'em to evaluate a player's tendency to go to showdown from the hijack position. WSD (Went to Showdown) measures the proportion of times a player sees the flop, turn, and river and reaches showdown after entering the pot. The qualifier "from HJ" means the statistic applies only to hands played from the hijack position. The hijack is the position after the under the gun (UTG) position and before the cutoff (CO). It is a middle-to-late position, offering some informational advantage but also facing pressure from players in later positions.
Usage
This metric helps analyze a player's style from the hijack:
- High WSD: Typically indicates a player who enters the pot with a wider range and rarely folds post-flop, suggesting a passive or sticky style.
- Low WSD: May indicate that the player is more selective about entering pots from the hijack, or that they are frequently forced to fold post-flop. Alternatively, it could reflect an aggressive style with frequent raises or folds pre-flop or on the flop.
Calculation
WSD from HJ is usually expressed as a percentage: (Number of hands from the hijack that reached showdown ÷ Total number of hands played from the hijack) × 100%. A sufficient sample size (typically at least 500 hands) is needed to obtain reliable data.
Strategic Significance
In the hijack, the position is relatively late but not the most advantageous. Combining WSD from HJ with other stats such as VPIP, PFR, and Aggression Factor provides a more complete picture of an opponent. For example, a player with a high WSD from the hijack may tend to control the pot and show down with marginal made hands, while a player with a low WSD may bluffed frequently or folded when their hand was weak.
Notes
This metric is influenced by table dynamics, opponent styles, and stack depths. When short-stacked, WSD may be higher, whereas with deep stacks players are more likely to pursue value or bluff, leading to corresponding changes in WSD. It is not recommended to be used in isolation; it should be interpreted together with position, entry rate, and other factors.
