HJ 30bb Push Fold
HJ 30bb Push Fold
In poker tournaments, a simplified strategy for the hijack position with a stack depth of about 30 big blinds: only perform all-in or fold actions to avoid complex post-flop decisions.
Overview
HJ 30bb Push Fold is a tournament strategy designed for a specific stack depth (approximately 30BB) and position (Hijack). Its core idea is: when the stack is at a moderately deep level (30BB), the player in the hijack gives up complex post-flop play and only acts by pushing all-in (Push) or folding. This strategy is often used to counter aggressive small blind or big blind players and to simplify the decision-making process.
Strategy Principles
- Stack Depth Significance: 30BB is a critical value between “shallow stack” and “deep stack”. At this depth, the proportion of chips committed post-flop is relatively high (e.g., if you raise 3BB pre-flop, you have 27BB remaining with a pot of about 7-8BB), making it easy to fall into a “pot-committed” situation where an opponent’s aggression can force you to call an all-in. The push-fold strategy avoids this risk.
- Position Advantage: The Hijack is in the middle-late position, allowing you to act before the button and small blind. If you choose to push all-in, you put pressure on later positions (especially the big blind); if you fold, you lose little.
- Range Adjustment: A typical push-fold range includes: strong hands (e.g., TT+, AQ+) pushed directly; medium hands (e.g., small pairs, suited connectors) pushed based on the opponent’s fold equity; weak hands folded entirely.
Applicable Scenarios
- Late stages of a tournament with high blind levels.
- When facing aggressive blind players who frequently 3-bet or re-raise all-in.
- When the player lacks confidence in post-flop skills.
Notes
- Be aware of resteal strategies: if opponents fold frequently, you can widen your push range (e.g., include K9s, 66, etc.).
- When the stack depth is below 25BB, the push-fold strategy becomes more mainstream; above 35BB, it’s advisable to retain post-flop play.
- Adjust range under ICM pressure: near the money bubble or final table, avoid pushing with marginal hands.
