HJ Preflop Squeeze Pot

劫位翻牌前挤压加注

Term: HJ Preflop Squeeze Pot A player in the Hijack (HJ) position makes a large re-raise preflop against an open raiser and at least one caller, aiming to force the callers to fold and isolate the raiser; a strategic move.

Context: Term article: HJ Preflop Squeeze Pot

Position and Timing

HJ (Hi-Jack) is the second position to the right of the button, a late position but not the last. Preflop, when a player (usually in early-to-middle position) open-raises and at least one player calls, the HJ player may choose to "squeeze". This typically requires a larger raise size (e.g., 3 to 4 times the pot or more) to apply pressure.

Purpose and Principle

The core goal of a squeeze is to use a large re-raise to force the original callers to fold, creating a heads-up situation with the original raiser. This gives the HJ player a positional advantage (if HJ is in late position and has position heads-up) and may exploit the opponent's wider range for value. Additionally, the squeeze captures the dead money (the callers' chips) already in the pot.

Example

Assume blinds 100/200, effective stack 20000. UTG raises to 500, CO calls 500, HJ holds A♠K♠. Here, HJ can raise to 2000-2500, pressuring CO to fold and going heads-up with UTG. If CO has a medium-strength hand (e.g., 99), they may fold, while UTG may continue with a wider range, giving HJ an advantage.

Considerations

Squeezing is not suitable for every situation. Opponents' tendencies, stack depth, and hand strength all influence the decision. Frequent squeezing can be noted and countered. Typically, a hand stronger than a calling range but not ideal for slow-playing (e.g., big pairs, high cards) or with good blocking effects is preferred.
