中位15大盲注偷盲(MP 15bb Steal)

MP 15bb Steal

In no-limit Texas Hold'em, an aggressive blind-stealing strategy where a player in middle position MP with an effective stack of about 15 big blinds raises in an attempt to directly win the blinds and dead money in the pot.

Overview

MP 15bb Steal is a steal strategy targeting the Middle Position (MP) at a specific stack depth (approximately 15 big blinds). In the middle or late stages of a tournament or in cash games, when a player's stack is around 15 big blinds, the relatively shallow stack requires adjustments to the standard steal raise size, hand range, and post-flop play.

Position and Stack Depth

  • Position: MP is one of the earlier positions preflop, typically the third seat at a 6-handed table or the fourth/fifth seat at a 9-handed table. Since players in CO and BTN are still to act behind, the risk of facing calls or re-raises is higher than from later positions.
  • Stack Depth: 15bb (big blind) falls into the short stack category. At this depth, players have limited room for complex post-flop maneuvers, so the success of a steal relies more on preflop pressure.

Strategy Points

  • Raise Size: Typically raise to 2.0-2.5bb to apply pressure without committing too much. Over-raising may commit you to the pot, while under-raising gives opponents favorable odds.
  • Hand Range: Compared to later positions, MP steals require stronger hand quality. Typical ranges include:
    • Pairs: 77+
    • High cards: AT+, KJ+, QJ, etc.
    • Suited connectors: T9s+ to balance nut potential.
  • Post-Flop Decisions:
    • If called by the blinds, tend to be aggressive (continuation bet) or fold, avoiding large pots.
    • If re-raised by a later position (CO/BTN), depending on opponent tendencies and hand strength, usually fold or shove (if you suspect a bluff).

Risks and Adjustments

  • Risks: After a failed MP steal, opponents may re-raise or call more frequently. Additionally, losing 15bb costs nearly a third of your stack, reducing margin for error.
  • Adjustments:
    • If the blinds are passive (rarely defend), widen your steal range.
    • If players behind frequently 3-bet, tighten your steal range and lean toward shoving with strong hands.
    • Occasionally limp-raise with AA/KK in MP, but keep the frequency low.

Summary

MP 15bb Steal is a common tactic for short-stacked players in middle position to exploit fold equity. The key lies in balancing aggression frequency, hand strength, and reads on opponents, avoiding difficult post-flop situations.
